For more than 20 years, we thought it would be fun to spend an extended time traveling through Europe. Finally, our family, including our 6-year-old daughter, was able to fulfill that dream. So we packed up our 1991 Westphalia Vanagon, shipped it over to Germany and started our adventure visiting Germany, France, Great Britain, the Benelux counties, Italy and more. The people we met were friendly, the sites memorable, the museums plentiful, and the landscapes captured the eye with color and beauty. There was plenty to do and see for us and our daughter. In fact, despite being there for a year, there is still much more to do and see.

Initially, we thought of spending three to four months in Europe. As time went on, we decided that 6 months would be a better choice. Then we realized it would not cost much more to spend a year. So, a year in Europe it was.

Because of the extended time in Europe, and bringing our daughter along, we decided to set up a homebase from which to set out on our explorations and to return to for rest. Afterall, living out of a VW camper for an extended time can be hard on anyone. So, we decided to set up an apartment in Germany. From there we were able to explore most of Western Europe and take many pictures to help us remember what we saw and did. Some of our adventures were wonderful and one, our trip to Italy, would rank as bitter-sweet.

We have tried to keep a record of our trip, and we present it here for your enjoyment. We plan to update this site with more travel tips and information as well as updates of our further adventures.
